Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering visiting the Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals
On the occasion of World Metrology Day, the Directorate for Measures and Precious Metals (hereinafter: DMDM), on Friday, May 8, 2026, hosted the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics.
On that occasion, students were introduced to the importance of metrology, as a science of measurements, which is present in all areas of human activity, the importance and method of ensuring metrological traceability to the international level, as well as the long tradition of metrology in Serbia.
Students were also briefed on the World Metrology Day 2026 theme, "Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making ", which highlights the role metrology plays in providing scientific evidence and legal frameworks that policy makers can use to make informed, transparent and enforceable decisions.
Through the promotional film, the importance and role of DMDM, as a national metrology institution, its competences, jobs and tasks in the field of metrology were presented. The expert visit included a tour of the time, small volume and length laboratories.
During the visit to the laboratories, the students had the opportunity to become more familiar with the possibilities of measurement and calibration, as well as other tasks that DMDM performs as a national metrology institute.
