An Important Application of Technical Legislation and Harmonization

Timely information and education on technical regulations and standards and their consistent implementation are key to improving the competitiveness of Serbian economy, it was pointed out at the Roundtable “The regulatory framework of technical legislation in Serbia and its application in practice”, organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Accreditation Body of Serbia, Institute for Standardization of Serbia and Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals, held on December 25, 2014.
Director of the SCC Sector for economic system Mr. Ljubiša Dimitrijević said that it is necessary to devote special attention to the process of harmonization and conformity assessment of products. The aim is to familiarize participants with the general and specific areas of technical legislation.

Mrs. Jelena Popović, Assistant Minister of Economy, stressed the importance of improving the competitiveness of Serbian economy and paving the way for quality and safety Serbian product in the European market. To be export-oriented, it is essential that technical regulations are implemented in our legal system.

Mrs. Lidija Stojanović, Assistant Minister of Commerce and Chief market inspector, indicated that it is necessary advancement of knowledge when technical legislation is concerned, as well as increase the competence of inspectors. Activities and scope of work of the Accreditation Body of Serbia presented Mrs. Milica Lukešević, Acting Director of the body, while Mrs. Vida Živković, M. Sc., Director of the Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals pointed out that in the field of metrology all European regulations are transposed in Serbian legislation. However, as pointed out, the most important thing is to be consistently applied.
