Institute of Nuclear Sciences „Vinča” Designated as Holder of the National Standard in the Field of Ionizing Radiation
At the initiative of the Director of the Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals (DMDM) that the Institute of Nuclear Sciences „Vinča” (Institute „Vinča”) shall be designated as the holder of the national standard in the field of ionizing radiation, Director of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) decided to place Institute „Vinča” in Appendix A of the Key Comparison Data Base – KCDB), on the list of institutes parties to the Mutual Recognition Agreement of the International Committee for Weights and Measures on standards, measurement results and calibration certificates (CIPM MRA) http://www.bipm.org/en/about-us/member-states/rs/cipm-mra.html.
Purpose of this designation is to facilitate international recognition of national standard of the Republic of Serbia in the field of metrology of ionizing radiation, which will be accomplished a major step in the realization of metrological traceability in the field of calibration of dosimeters in radiotherapy and radiation protection, and partly in the field of diagnostic radiology.
With this designation Institute „Vinča” has become an integral part of the Metrology system of the highest levels in the Republic of Serbia, together with the DMDM, and is entitled to apply its calibration and measurement capabilities – CMCs in the aforementioned KCDB database.
By 2014 CIPM MRA was signed by 95 institutes from 53 counties signatories of the Metre Convention (including the Republic of Serbia) and 38 states that have the status of Associate Member, four International Organizations, including the additional 152 designated institutes, among which is the Institute „Vinča”.
