Electrical measurements have significant importance in almost all areas of research and development, industrial activities, quality of life and the environment. Non-electrical quantities are transformed, processed, stored and transmitted electrically. Therefore, measurements of electrical quantities play a key role in metrology. The first electrical measurements in the field of metrology on the territory of the Republic of Serbia were performed in the second half of the XX century.

Achievements in accurate time and frequency measurement have enabled the realization of time systems that have contributed to development of many areas such as the realization of the SI units, advances in satellite navigation systems, synchronization in telecommunications and electricity networks, increasing the speed and volume of information transmission in telecommunications, financial sector, control and management of all types of traffic, automated measuring systems used in science, and many other areas of life. The development of this area in the Republic of Serbia began during the 70’s of the last century. TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

The Section for Electrical Quantities, Time and Frequency is responsible for the practical implementation of two of the seven basic units of the SI system: ampere - unit for electricity and second - unit for time. The Section is engaged in research and development of standards units of basic and derived quantities; development and application of new methods of transferring unit values; perfecting and improving the metrological properties of existing standards and methods; ensuring and maintaining the traceability and metrological properties of national and reference standards; ensuring the recognition and validation of measurement and calibration capabilities under the Arrangement on Mutual Recognition of National Standards and Calibration and Measurement Certificates (MRAs); preparation of metrological regulations for measuring instruments subject to the obligation of type testing and verification and metrological expertise.

The Section also performs activities related to the realization of the distribution of legal time.

In the field of scientific, industrial and legal metrology, the Section for Electrical Quantities, Time and Frequency conducts calibration of standards in the field of electrical quantities, time, frequency and velocity, as well as testing of measuring instruments for testing types and measuring conformity for all users. which are most often accredited laboratories, manufacturers of measuring instruments and scientific research institutions.

The work in the Section is covered by integrated quality management, and is carried out in accordance with all relevant technical standards.

The Section for Electrical Quantities, Time and Frequency has national standards for DC voltage, AC voltage (AC-DC transfer), DC resistance, electrical power, electricity, current and voltage transformers and national standard for time and frequency.

At the European Association of National Metrology Institutes - EURAMET, the Section actively participates in the work of three technical committees and four subcommittees:

Calibration and measurement capabilities (CMCs) for time and frequency were published in database of International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
ACCREDITATION CERTIFICATE (Laboratory for electrical energy)
In accordance with the scope of accreditation, single-phase and three-phase electricity meters of active and reactive electricity of all accuracy classes are tested.

Accreditation certificates confirming the competence to perform testing of active and reactive electricity meters, in accordance with a series of standards SRPS EN 50470-2:2009, SRPS EN 50470-3:2009, SRPS EN 62053-11:2008, SRPS EN 62053-21:2008, SRPS EN 62053-22:2008 i SRPS EN 62053-23:2008.
